Del Potro books Cincinnati Masters semifinal berth, beats Tursunov

World number seven Juan Martin Del Potro asserted his mastery in hardcourts with a convincing quarterfinal victory at the Cincinnati Masters against Russia’s Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

“It was a really tough match for me. It’s not easy playing a quarter-finals in a Masters 1000 but I think I did well in the end,” said del Potro after the match.

The Argentine reached the semifinals of this event last year but lost to eventual finalist Novak Djokovic. On Saturday, just when everyone thought that a replay of such match will take place, Djokovic was ousted in the quarterfinals by American John Isner, thus halting the Serbian’s aim to complete the Career Golden Masters.
