They may battled against each other 31 times at the ATP Tour, surprisingly there hasn’t been a Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal US Open match out of those face-offs between long-time rivals. The Federer vs Nadal match may be made possible at the US Open 2013 Championships if both high profile players will meet in the quarterfinals.
Rafael Nadal is arguably the player to beat this season, winning 9 titles so far. The Spaniard rose to world number 2 in the rankings this week after winning back to back ATP Masters 1000 titles in montreal and Cincinnati. He’s tapped as the heavy favorite to win the US Open title but he does have an interesting draw. He will face American Ryan Harrison in the opening round and could meet Montreal Masters semifinalist Vasek Pospisil of Canada in the second. His potential fourth round opponent would be John Isner of the US, the one he defeated in the final in Cincinnati.
If the Federer vs Nadal US Open 2013 quarterfinal comes to fruition, it will be their 32nd meeting and Nadal holds a massive lead in their head to head series at 21-10.
Both are former US Open champions. Nadal won the title in 2010 while Federer is a five-time champion in New York.
Federer will have a challenging draw as well. He will first meet Grega Zemlja of Slovenia in the opening round and could meet 26th seed Sam Querrey of the US in the third round. His potential fourth round opponent could be Bernard Tomic, Kei Nishikori or Tommy Robredo.
