Li Na’s coach believes ward should take “extra risks”

Fifth-ranked Li Na of China has to be more aggressive and take “extra risks” if she wants to be part of the world’s top three. This was revealed by her coach, Carlos Rodriguez, in an interview with Xinhua recently. Rodriguez was the coach of now-retired seven-time Grand Slam champion and former top-ranked Justine Henin of Belgium.

Li Na has had inconsistent results so far this 2013 season where she reached the final of the 2013 Australian, lost in the second round of the French Open and was ousted in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. The Chinese tennis superstar will need to step up her game in the next two weeks since she’s defending a lot of ranking points at the Roger’s Cup in Toronto (runner-up in 2012) and Cincinnati Open (defending champion).

“She has to be the person to put on pressure and try to take an extra risk to go to the net and win the matches,” Rodriguez was quoted as saying.

“She is in-between and not that far from the top three. But to make this last step, she has to take responsibility and risk more,” he added.
