Caroline Wozniacki books semifinal spot at Pan Pacific Open 2013

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki is through to the Pan Pacific Open 2013 semifinal after defeating Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. The Dane, the champion of this hardcourt event in 2010, will next face Angelique Kerber of Germany. Kerber defeated former champion Agnieszka Radwanska in the other quarterfinal match.

“I’m feeling good. I like to play here,” Wozniacki said. “I like the courts here – they’re fast, and they suit my game. I feel like I’ve been playing well and taking advantage of the pace on my serve – obviously it makes life a little bit easier out there when you start off the point well.”

Wozniacki and Kerber are split in their head-to-head series, 3-3.

“I’m feeling very confident after winning the last three matches I’ve played here, so now I think I have nothing to lose tomorrow and I’ll just go out there, try my best, and see what happens,” Kerber said.

“I’m playing another good friend, which is never easy,” she added. “I need to focus on my game, keep improving and execute my game plan from the first point. I can’t think about my opponent.

“Caroline moves very well and for sure it won’t be easy. We’ve had some long matches in the past.”
