Milos Raonic blasts past Lopez to reach US Open fourth round for second straight year

Canadian Milos Raonic reached the 4th round of the US Open tennis championships for the second straight year with a 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 over Feliciano Lopez of Spain in two hours and 37 minutes. The tenth-seed made 28 aces.

“I think after [the tie-break] I sort of started cleaning things up from the baseline,” Raonic said. “I thought I was pretty sound and served pretty well, and then the return was getting better and better throughout the match. I feel like I’m playing well. I feel like if I do, if I continue playing the way I am, I will have a lot of opportunities to give myself in each set to win a match.”

The 22-year old Canadian is aiming to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the first time in his career. He will have to get past Frenchman Richard Gasquet who won his third round match against Dmitry Tursunov via retirement.

Raonic reached the world’s top ten for the first time after reaching the Montreal Masters final last month. He could make a return to the top ten with a better finish in New York.
