World number two Rafael Nadal booked the second and final slot for the US Open 2013 Men’s Singles Final that’s scheduled on September 9, 2013 Monday with a comprehensive 6-4, 7-6, 6-2 victory over Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the semifinals. This is Gasquet’s first trip to a Grand Slam singles semifinal match.
Nadal remains undefeated in hardcourt matches this year which saw him winning nine titles so far. He’s aiming for a 13th Grand Slam singles title when he faces world number one Novak Djokovic in the final.
By virtue of reaching the final, Novak Djokovic remains world number one once the rankings are released on Monday. However, Nadal extends his lead at the top of the Race to London rankings.
