Roger Federer regains number five world ranking as of September 16

Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer regained his place in the world’s top five based on the current ATP World Tour rankings released on Monday, September 16.

Federer was ranked out of the world’s top five for the first time in more than a decade after failing to defend the Cincinnati Masters title in August. He was seeded seventh at the recently concluded US Open tournament where he lost in the fourth round to Tommy Robredo of Spain.

His current ranking points is set at 4,515. Erstwhile world number five Tomas Berdych is now in 6th place with 4,460 and Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina is seventh with 4,425 points.

Though he’s now world number five, Federer still needs to perform better in the upcoming tournaments as his current 2013 ranking points alone is at 3,055 which is seventh in the ATP World Tour Race to London 2013 rankings. He has ranking points to defend at the upcoming Shanghai Masters wherein he reached the semifinals last year.
