Top-ranked Serena Williams pulls out of Toray Pan Pacific Open 2013 event

World number one Serena Williams has withdrawn her participation at the Toray Pan Pacific Open 2013 which takes place in Tokyo, Japan from September 22 to 28.

The organizers announced that Williams needed more time to recover from the fatigue that she’s experiencing from a very busy North American summer which saw her winning the US Open Series and the US Open 2013 tournament.

World number three Maria Sharapova had already pulled out of the event as she’s still recovering from a right shoulder injury that sidelined her from the US Open.

The Toray Pan Pacific Open is a WTA Premier event with $2.4 million financial commitment.
