Australian Open bans Bernard Tomic’s father for 2014 edition as per existing sanction

Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley confirmed that John Tomic, the father and coach of tennis pro Bernard Tomic will be banned from the Australian Open 2014. This is in conformance of the 12-month sanction imposed by the Grand Slams and the ATP Tour on the elder Tomic.

“The rule is he’s not accredited and does not have permission to purchase a ticket,” he said.

Tiley added that “security will take care of that appropriately” should John Tomic attempts to enter the grounds.

“It still falls within the one year ban, so regardless of what happens at the Australian Open, our position will hold,” he said
