Maria Sharapova pulls out of WTA Championships 2013 Istanbul

World number three Maria Sharapova has officially ended her 2013 season after she announced that she won’t be taking part of the year-end WTA Championships 2013. The Russian has expressed in recent interviews that she intends to participate at the $6 million event if she’s healthy enough to do so. However, with this development, it seemed like she needed more time to rehabilitate her right shoulder. She’s missed the better part of the second half of the year due to bursitis on her right shoulder.

“I am very disappointed that I will not be able to play in the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships this year,” Sharapova said. “The fans in Istanbul have welcomed us each year with such intense passion and warmth, I will sincerely miss the energy and excitement they brought to the year-end tournament. I want to thank Istanbul for being a tremendous host and hope to play in Turkey sometime in the future.”
