Roger Federer believes his “game’s been coming back”

World number seven Roger Federer is currently in Shanghai for the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai Rolex Masters tournament which is his first event since his surprise fourth round exit at the US Open last month and the Swiss superstar, though he may have missed tournaments within the past month, admitted that he’s been spending a lot of time training in both Switzerland and Dubai. He’s now setting his sights on claiming his 22nd ATP Masters 1000 title at the Chinese city.

“It’s one of those things you just want to move on from,” said Federer, in reference to his fourth round loss to Tommy Robredo in New York. “I think my game’s been coming back, which has been very important. Now it’s about staying positive and working hard every single day, that’s been the mindset.”

“I’m really just focused on my own game, my first-round opponent,” he added.

Federer is seeded fifth at this event and will face either Andreas Seppi or Lleyton Hewitt in his opening round match.

The Swiss Maestro is aiming to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals in London. He’s currently seventh in the standings.

“It was the goal at the beginning of the season to qualify for [London]. I consider it the absolute best of the best tournament out there, so I want to be part of that,” said Federer. “It’s extra motivation for me to play well and be part of that great tournament.”

Roger Federer has won the ATP World Tour Finals for a record six times. As for the Shanghai Masters, his best finish was runner-up in 2010.
