Jelena Dokic to begin comeback at Australian Open 2014 wildcard playoffs

Former world number four Jelena Dokic will compete with other Australian players for a spot in the main draw of the Australian Open 2014 tournament in Melbourne this coming January. Tennis Australia will be giving wildcard spots to the playoff winners.

Dokic missed the better part of the past two years on tour as she recuperates from numerous physical injuries. She’s finding her motivation to compete once more against other top players on tour.

“It’s been a battle for the last couple of years, but I feel pretty good now, so hopefully I’ll
be healthy for next year. Hopefully I’ll get a couple of matches in the wildcard play-off, just to see where I’m at, and just to get
some competitive matches under my belt,” Dokic said in an interview with The Age.

“Yeah, it would be great to have a chance to play again. It’s always hard to start again when you haven’t played for a while, and with
no ranking and stuff, so it would be great to get a chance to play, but it’s still a while away,” she added.
