John Inverdale set for Wimbledon boot by 2014

John Inverdale is reportedly set to be removed from his job as the head of the Wimbledon coverage for BBC. This surfaced following his controversial comments about Wimbledon 2013 ladies singles champion Marion Bartoli earlier this year.

Inverdale asked his listeners via BBC Radio 5 Live: “Do you think Bartoli’s dad told her when she was little ‘You’re never going to be a looker? You’ll never be a Sharapova, so you have to be scrappy and fight.” This after the Frenchwoman defeated Sabine Lisicki for her maiden grand slam title.

According to Daily Mail, the commentator will miss the 2014 edition of the competition and his future in covering the events at the All England Club is now in doubt. BBC and Inverdale have already issued apologies for those who were offended.

“John is certainly part of BBC Sport’s team for a very busy summer. Our final plans for 2014 will be announced in due course,” said a BBC spokesperson to Daily Mail.
