Wozniacki: “I’m a player who can win a Grand Slam”

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki believes that she can still win a Grand Slam title someday and she said she’s working hard to make this a reality.

The Dane has decided not to go to Australia to support golfer-boyfriend Rory McIlroy as the latter takes part in the Australian Open golf tournament.

“It’s just too far to travel to Australia as I am playing in the Brisbane International and Sydney before the Australian Open,” she explained. “So I didn’t want to have to make two journeys to Australia in such a short space of time.”

The Dane will begin her 2014 season at the Brisbane International which begins on December 29.

Wozniacki is currently working with Thomas Hogstedt, the former coach of Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova. Sharapova and Hogstedt split in July this year. Wozniacki and her father Piotr ended their coaching partnership earlier this year.

“The downs just make the ups even better,” she said. “You know, you appreciate it more. I know that when I put in the work, I am a player
who can win a Grand Slam.”
