Ferrer defeats Nadal at Abu Dhabi exhibition semifinals

Third-ranked David Ferrer of Spain defeated top-ranked compatriot Rafael Nadal 6-4, 6-4 in a 90-minute semifinal match at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship on Friday to earn a spot in the final and meet defending champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia on Saturday.

Djokovic faced 10th-ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in the other semifinal and won in straight sets 7-6, 6-3 in just 74 minutes.

The Abu Dhabi event won’t have any bearing in the ATP rankings but has always attracted marquee players. It boasts $250,000 in prize money with only six participants in the event.
