Monfils pulls out of Heineken Open 2014, cites fatigue as reason

Frenchman Gael Monfils has pulled out of this week’s Heineken Open in Auckland, New Zealand, stating that fatigue is the major factor behind the withdrawal.

The 31st ranked player already informed the tournament organizers on Sunday just less than a day after losing to world number one Rafael Nadal in three sets at the Qatar Open final on Saturday.

Monfils would have been the seventh seed in the tournament. Other players stating that they’re unsure of participating include fourth seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa and American third seed John Isner who suffered an ankle injury and is yet to confirm whether he’ll participate or not.

World number three David Ferrer is the tournament top seed and is aiming for a fifth title in this event.
