Rafael Nadal gets Laureus Award nomination for “Comeback of the Year” honors

World number one Rafael Nadal has snagged a nomination at this year’s Laureus World Sports Awards after the Mallorcan mounted one of the best comebacks during the 2013 season. Nadal would go on to finish the previous season with a 75-7 match record which saw him win two Grand Slam titles (Roland Garros, US Open) and five ATP Masters 1000 events (Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome, Montreal, Cincinnati).

Nadal is nominated together with Oracle Team USA, reigning America’s Cup champion, Brazilian football star Ronaldinho, Boston Red Sox and Tiger Woods for the “Comeback of the Year” award. The winners of the 15th Laureus World Sports Awards will be announced on March 26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Nadal is currently taking part of this week’s inaugural Rio Open where he’s already reached the quarterfinals after a win over Daniel Gimeno-Traver.
