Roger Federer appreciates support from Pete Sampras

World number eight Roger Federer says he appreciates the support he’s getting from 14-time Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras. Sampras has stated in a recent interview that he believes Federer still has what it takes to add more Grand Slam titles from his already record-setting 17 Major wins. The American believes that Federer would most likely get Slam number 18 at the Wimbledon Championships. Should this happen, Federer would break the tie with Sampras with the most number of Wimbledon titles in history. Both tennis stars have 7 Wimbledon wins.

“I’m happy he’s being positive about my game. I think it does say something. It counts. It gives me extra confidence to know that someone like him believes in me, is in my corner, and I can always call him up and ask him for any advice. I don’t want to break his records necessarily. That’s not what I’m playing for. I’m playing for myself, for my team, for my country, you name it,” Federer said following his first round win at the Dubai Tennis Championships this week.

“I’m happy things are going better now again this year.”
