Roger Federer advances to Indian Wells 2014 semifinals, beats Kevin Anderson in straight sets

World number eight Roger Federer advanced to the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open 2014 Indian Wells on Thursday evening after the Swiss star eliminated Kevin Anderson of South Africa 7-5, 6-1. Federer will next face Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine after the latter eliminated 10th seed Milos Raonic of Canada also in straight sets.

Federer, a four-time champion at this event, was a quarterfinalist at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden a year ago (lost to Rafael Nadal) and a semifinal run so far at this event will guarantee additional ranking points for the Swiss.

There are two players in the world’s top 10 left in the draw, Federer and world number two Novak Djokovic. Djokovic will be playing his quarterfinal match on Friday.
