Qualifier Martin Klizan stuns Fognini to win BMW Open 2014 crown

World number 111 Martin Klizan completed a dream run at this week’s BMW Open 2014 in Munich, Germany after defeating top seed Fabio Fognini of Italy 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the final on Sunday. This is his second career ATP title.

It seemed like Fognini, ranked 13th in the world, is prepped for victory at this event with Klizan getting medical treatment while down 1-4 in the first set. Fognini has defeated Klizan in their past three meetings. However, it can be recalled the Klizan defeated Fognini for his first ATP title at St. Petersburg back in 2012.

Klizan received €77,315 in prize money and earned 250 ranking points which is more than enough for him to make a return in the world’s top 100. Fognini received €40,720 and 150 ranking points.
