Samantha Stosur produced a minor upset at the Roland Garros 2014 tournament after eliminating ninth-seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia on Friday. Though it does look like an upset on paper, Stosur has a perfect 6-0 record against Cibulkova. The Australian also reached the final at this Grand Slam event in 2010.
“It’s very pleasing. I’m really happy with the way I played today and I think it’s the first time I won three matches in a row for a while, too,” Stosur said. “And to keep playing well, you know, when your opponent is putting you under pressure at certain times in the match, it’s really amazing to come out of those as well.
“I just love playing here. I’ve had some really great moments here and some of the best matches of my career actually. Hopefully I can still have a few more matches like this.”
The final score was 6-4, 6-4.
