Andrea Petkovic wins second Gastein Ladies title

Germany’s Andrea Petkovic won her second Gastein Ladies title on Sunday after outlasting first time finalist Shelby Rogers of United States 6-3, 6-3. Five years ago, a then-98th ranked Petkovic would go on to win her maiden title at this event. This is her second title of season and fourth overall.

Finalist Rogers still have a lot to celebrate in her breakthrough week. She played her way from qualifying and recorded her first two top 20 victories in her career – defeating claycourt stalwarts Sara Errani and Carla Suarez Navarro on her way to the final.

“I’m definitely feeling the matches – I’ve played a lot this week – but she played incredible and is always a tough competitor,” Rogers said of Petkovic. “I’m still so happy with my whole week, though. I had such a great time here. The fans were amazing too. I had an incredible time here on and off the court.

“It was just an incredible experience this year in Bad Gastein.”

The doubles event was won by Pliskova twin sisters – Kristyna and Karolina – after defeating Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor and Andreja Klepac 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
