18-nation line-up for 2020 Davis Cup Madrid Finals complete

The 18 teams that will compete for the prestigious 2020 Davis Cup title in Madrid have been confirmed this week following the completion of the World Group I playoffs. The Davis Cup now has a new format.

The 2020 Davis Cup Madrid Finals will take place on November 23 to 20 at the La Caja Magica. The matches will be contested on indoor hardcourts.

  2. Canada (runner-up)
  3. Great Britain (semifinalist)
  4. Russia (semifinalist)
  • Wildcards [2]

  2. Serbia
  • Qualifiers [12 – matches completed on March 6-7, 2020]
  1. Australia
  2. Austria
  3. Colombia
  4. Croatia
  5. Czech Republic
  6. Ecuador
  7. Germany
  8. Hungary
  9. Italy
  10. Kazakhstan
  11. Sweden
  12. United States.

There will be six round-robin groups of three teams. Six group winners will advance to the quarterfinals plus the two second-placed teams which will be determined based on sets and games won.

It will be a knock-out phase from quarterfinals toward the championship round.

As with the new format, teams that will reach the semifinals get automatic qualification for the 2021 edition.
