The Rogers Cup tournament is one of the most well-attended tournaments in both ATP and WTA Tour calendars. The men’s event is a $3 million ATP 1000 tournament and will take place from August 8 – 16, 2009 in Montreal. Roger Federer, who already won two Grand Slam titles this year, leads a strong field of players. Since this is a Masters tournament, top ranked players are expected to participate including defending champion Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick.

The women’s event, a $2 million Premier tournament, will be staged a week later. The world’s top five players (Dinara Safina, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Elena Dementieva and Svetlana Kuznetsova) are expected to grace the courts and play their best tennis. Comebacking Belgian Kim Clijsters was granted a wildcard entry in this tournament. Safina is the defending champion.
