The 2011 US Open tournament will end on Monday, September 12, instead on Sunday due to schedule delays that happened due to heavy rains.

The US Open Men’s Final will now be played on Monday at 4pm Eastern Time while the US Open Women’s Final will be scheduled on Sunday at 4 pm Eastern Time.

The US Tennis Association announced the changes on Thursday after heavy rains forced matches to be cancelled on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The remaining Men’s Singles quarterfinal matches will take place on Friday with the semifinal matches to take place a day later. The finalists will have a day off on Sunday.

The Men’s Final at the US Open will be contested on a Monday for the fourth consecutive year.

These efforts were made “in an effort to be fair to the players and our ticketholders,” according to Tournament Director Jim Curley.

“This is the result of a collaborative effort with the players, CBS Sports and tournament officials to address the issues that arose from the inclement weather earlier this week,” Curley added.
