The 2012 Rogers Cup competition begins this week with the women’s event taking place in Montreal while the men’s ATP 1000 Masters event will be at Toronto. This prestigious tournament boasts of the best WTA and ATP stars. Unfortunately, due to the Olympic tennis event in London which concluded on Sunday, some of the top players have opted to skip this event. However, there’s still a lot of star power in the draw – including second-ranked Novak Djokovic, Olympics 2012 men’s singles gold medalist Andy Murray and many more. In the women’s side, Olympics 2012 women’s singles silver medalist Maria Sharapova and bronze medalist Victoria Azarenka have confirmed their participation and will headline the competitive field.
The 2012 Rogers Cup is part of the Emirates Airline US Open Series and the winners will get US Open series points which could help them win the series title and could earn potentially more depending on their performance at the 2012 US Open.
