The 2012 WTA Championships Istanbul begins today and the world’s top eight singles players plus two alternates and four top doubles teams are in the Turkish capital to compete for lucrative cash prizes and important ranking points that will solidify their place in the 2013 season. A familiar face enters this competition, world number eight Na Li of China.
Li has played 56 matches, winning 41 of those matches. Despite a rather dismal performance in four Grand Slam events, she was able to hang on to the elite eight by reaching the final in three Premier-level events, winning one (in Cincinnati).
