Richard Gasquet aims to win Thailand Open 2013 to improve ATP World Tour Finals chances

Frenchman Richard Gasquet is aiming to successfully defend the Thailand Open title to increase his chances of qualifying to the elite ATP World Tour Finals. The Thailand Open 2013 starts on September 23 and concludes on the 29th.

Gasquet will face tough opposition as there are seven top twenty players in the draw including Wimbledon 2013 champion Andy Murray and world number five Tomas Berdych. Not to be missed are Canada’s Milos Raonic, last year’s runner-up Gilles Simon and Tommy Robredo of Spain.

Gasquet is currently ranked ninth in the world and is poised to soar higher after an impressive run to the semifinals of the recently concluded US Open 2013. In the ATP World Tour Race to London 2013 standings, the Frenchman also stands in ninth place with 2,765 points. A win in Thailand would add 250 points and he could overtake Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka in eighth place. Wawrinka could go as high as number seven in the race standings if he wins the Malaysian Open tournament which also takes place on the same week.
