Roger Federer aims for career Golden Slam at Rio Olympics 2016

Swiss Maestro Roger Federer said that he’s aiming to compete at the Rio Olympics in 2016 with the hopes of achieving the Career Golden Slam. He stressed that it doesn’t mean that he will retire after competing in Brazil.

“Playing at the Rio Olympics is something I’d like to achieve,” he said.

“That doesn’t mean I’m going to end my career there, or earlier or later. It’s just an idea,” he added.

Federer came close to winning a singles Olympic gold medal a year ago in London but had to contend with silver after losing the final to Andy Murray. A few weeks prior to the final, Federer won his 17th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon.

Only two male players have achieved the Career Golden Slam (Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal).

“As long as my body and mind is ready to go to travel, I’m happy to be doing what I’m doing, I’m successful. I’ll be playing for some time. That hasn’t changed due to a tough six months,” he added.

Federer is competing this week at the Swiss Indoors Basel where he is a nine-time finalist.
